The environmental situation of Cité L'Eternel in Port-au-Prince, Haiti.

In Port-au-Prince, urban insecurity resulting from the proliferation of underprivileged neighborhoods is juxtaposed with a lack of urban planning that has led to uncontrolled urban sprawl and social and economic segregation of the urban population.

The process of anarchic urbanization in Port-au-Prince was explained through a historical account of its shantytowns and the typology of their habitats. In addition, the precariousness and disaster risk of these neighborhoods are presented through an analysis of the environmental problems in the "Cité de l'Eternel", one of Port-au-Prince's largest shantytowns. Its unbridled urbanization process has put the capital at risk, with two major challenges: inadequate infrastructure and areas prone to flooding or landslides.
