Pollution of water resources and environmental impacts in urban areas of developing countries
Pollution of water resources in developing countries is a public health problem. It affects the daily lives and living standards of urban populations. In the urban areas of poor countries, uncontrolled population growth exerts heavy pressure on existing natural resources, particularly water resources, leading to accelerated environmental degradation.
In the town of Cayes (Haiti), cryptosporidium was detected in groundwater oocysts used by the population for domestic purposes. The number of oocysts detected varied from 5 to 100 per 100 l of water.
